I picked up a Fuji X100 to be my everyday camera. Took me a day or 2 to get comfortable with it, but once I started playing with it I was hooked. It feels solid and is fairly intuative to use coming from my Nikon rigs. Lens is awesome and with the new firmware update the focus is manageable. While yes, it is a little slow sometimes it’s something you can deal with. With a fast memory card loaded you can blast off 5 frames per second and the camera is able to write them quickly. The viewfinder features an eye sensor and overlays some digital components to it. At first I was super stoked on it, but I’m just sort of use to it and find myself using the rear LCD more and more as I hold the camera in places and positions I can’t put my face haha. The Fujifilm X100 is the smallest and lightest real camera ever made. Silent, 14 megapixels, 23mm lens, F2, with aperture ring and a built in ND filter.. This camera has everything I wanted from a carry around camera in a sick looking body.

I’ve carried the camera with me every day for the past week and here are a few shots I’ve captured:

5 Favorite Photos of 2011:

5. Dylan Miller doubling up at sunset. On a trip to Florida this spring I set out with Dylan and Rusty to shoot some double ups at sunset. Coordinating the boat driver, the double up location and my chase boat angle with the sunset was proving to be tough - then throw in trying to focus on the location they are about to hit the double up. This ended up running full page in the Alliance Photo Annual 2011.

4. Christian Primrose shredding out on Lake Simcoe while I shot from a wakeskate with my waterhousing in one hand and handle in the other.

3. In the tube. I’ve always wanted to get a tube shot and on a trip to Florida my girlfriend and I stopped at Jacksonville Beach to check out the surf and camp out for a few days. The waves were pounding and I got this on my 2nd time out in the surf with my waterhousing.

2. Farm field wedding. I had scouted out this location a few weeks in advance of the wedding and it turned out just how I wanted. The venue had been triple booked so there were bridzillas running around trying to get wedding photos. I happily left with the bride and groom to go to my own private venue - a nearby farmers field.

1. Wolves. Late in March Claire and I drove to a parc in Quebec to see wolves. I had spent most of the day trying to get a shot I was really happy. However the harsh light and the wolves being fairly inactive and hidden during the day were making this difficult. Finally, I nabbed these of a wolf that was being somewhat shunned from the pack as the sun was starting to dip.
